Falling Rock Assignment 2

Allow me to tell you the story of falling rock, as my grandfather told it to me. You see, many years ago there was a tribe of native Americans the name, however, has been lost to history. The story isn't about the tribe itself but the chief's daughter, whispering wind. Now whispering wind was a highly desirable woman in this tribe, and every man wanted to marry her. So the chief set up a series of strenuous tasks to thwart the weak and incompetent. He wanted his daughter to marry an intelligent brave, who was a good hunter. So many men competed in the trials and only two succeeded, Falling Rock And Big Elk.

Falling rock and Big Elk had been neck and neck the entire time. Through all events they came to a draw. Finally after many events and many moons the chief decided that if he couldn't pick one, he would go mad. He designed and sang until he came up with one final test for Whispering Wind's heart. Falling Rock, and Big Elk must both journey into the wilderness, the one who returned to the camp last, would be the better hunter and win the contest for Whispering Wind's hand. They both left out, many moons passed and the tribe began to think all was lost, that both men had perished until one day,Big Elk returned.
The speculation among the tribe was that Falling Rock had perished. That evening, the Village celebrated, there was much dancing and rejoicing for Whispering Wind had finally found a brave worthy of her love. But as the fire raged the great spirit presented the village with a message, Falling Rock had not perished, he was alive and well. Still surviving. The chief proclaimed that one day Falling Rock would return and marry Whispering Wind. And in due time all would be well. Many moons have passed since that day and nobody had ever seen Falling Rock again. The Whispering Wind searches still, howling across the plain. Even to this day you can still the signs by the road that say.... "Watch for Falling Rock"
