Fear, assignment 3

Fear is said to be the heart of love, but when viewed from an outsider's perspective fear is often the calculation of one's own reflected mind. "Deep into that darkness peering, long i stood there, wondering fearing doubting" an Excerpt from edgar Allen Poe's masterpiece "The Raven" Many times as children we experience  fear. Fear in the unknown, in the imagined monsters residing under our beds, or inside the darkness of our closest spaces. Even as we grow older, our fear in monsters magic and demons never seems to fully subside, some days i wonder what  could see in absolute darkness. In the places where liquid shadow prevails over light in their sanguine malicious dance. What is the meaning of fear? is it simply the reflection of insecurity? Or guidelines for our own mind's survival.? I have speculated many times but never truly imagined i would understand the concept of fear or really wanted to, not knowing in this case is better. It allows a fervent imagination to take hold of something small and make into something terrifying. Like a lucid fever dream we can catch hold of something ordinary in the dark, like a robe on a coat rack or a mop and make it into a monster descending from the ceiling, or a giant spider growing from the drain, here to pick your bones clean and have room for more.

As i woke early that evening i felt the chill of a cool wind, creep up my spine, passed my shoulders and into my mind. The silence in the room brought the brink of insanity close to my conscience, and i felt the night grow darker.

Is it merely the thought of something sinister waiting in the dark that makes us afraid? or is it the darkness itself? Seeping into your mind like water through the floorboards, polluting your thoughts, and bringing misery to relaxation.

Is it merely the thought of something sinister waiting in the dark that makes us afraid?
